Youth Community Support Agency (YCSA) has worked with disadvantaged young people and their families from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities from its base in Pollokshields for 25 years. Their strapline, ‘Empowering Black and Minority Ethnic Young People’, sums up their purpose. A wide range of anti-social behaviour issues affect the local community, e.g. dangerous driving, criminal activity and drug use/selling. To address this, YCSA is applying for money to develop a streetwork and outreach project to address anti-social behaviour in the Pollokshields area. This 6 month programme over 2 nights a week would engage with young, primarily BME people who are engaged in, or at risk of being drawn into, anti-social behaviour. The project will provide a range of activities in response to young people’s interests, providing opportunities to look beyond their current world view. It will bring in partners to broaden the range of opportunities on offer and will link young people to opportunities and services that can help them progress in a positive direction through diversionary activities. The project will work in partnership with Police Scotland’s Violence Reduction Unit and Pollokshields Youth Development Group. Funding request: £18,968 to fund staffing, resources and activities for the young people.
