Southside Fringe is a community enterprise company aiming to provide a platform for music and the performing arts, integration in the local multicultural communities and capacity building in the local community. They facilitate an annual community arts and music festival, with a year-round base providing events, training and volunteering opportunities. Engaging young people in arts and culture can help to combat poverty, address inequalities and improve attainment and achievement. The diverse communities of young people in Ward 6 need outlets for social interaction across culture and language. To address this, they want to deliver a community event and procession to launch the 2020 Southside Fringe Festival. They will engage with Ward 6 schools and community groups to create a volunteer training programme, supporting delivery of the event and building a skilled volunteer bank for community activity beyond the festival. Training will cover events, marketing, promotion, social media, CV building and community involvement. Primarily recruiting 18-24 year olds, focussing on BME groups, they will also engage with local secondary schools/youth groups regarding working with 12-18 year olds. Project partners Baldy Bane Theatre Company will deliver drama workshops within the programme. Funding request: £19,955 to fund staffing, activities and wider project costs.
