Titwood Bowling Club (TBC) was founded in 1890, and has played a central role in the social and recreational life of the area since then. Its main purpose is to promote participation in bowling, but equally important is its commitment to provide recreational, social, and informal learning opportunities for all members of the community. TBC is run by volunteers, and accessed by 7000 local people annually. Many groups of people use TBC’s facilities including people from BME communities, people experiencing poverty and disadvantage and disabled people. Members’ ages range from late 20s to 94 years. As well as events and meetings for community groups and charities, TBC hosts family celebrations including birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and funerals. However, TBC currently lacks facilities to make the club fully accessible for disabled people and infirm older people. Over 40% of current members consider themselves elderly and infirm, or have mobility issues. Local community groups and families have said that full disability access would allow them to use TBC's facilities for meetings, celebrations and other events. TBC is applying for money to develop an accessible toilet. This will mean more local people can use its facilities. Funding request: £17,544 to fund accessible toilet facilities.
